my neighbor anne just came by and brought me a bag of tomatoes and some zuchini from their garden as they are doing the final picking.
the clouds are low on the mountains and it started trying to snow while she was here.
then verr don came over to tell me he's unhooked all the hoses from the faucets and is going to drain the irrigation sprinkler line for the winter.
i guess it's getting close for me to start setting up the heated water buckets for the animals and get...

verr don has gotten the last cutting done and up and has been watering for the last 2 days. in a few days he'll let his sheep in the alfalfa field to clean it up for the winter and then he's hoping to get them home before we have any major freeze.
it sure is nice having him take care of all the feilds
makes me realize that we don't have much longer before winter comes and the fall work (getting heated water bowls out,...

these wasps have gotten totally out of hand.
last year i had jose get all the dead tree stumps out, and he pulled down some of the old sheds.
i still want him to get the old chicken coop out of here and now i realize the old trailer next to it.
in the spring jose sprayed really good and i've had my hands full just keeping the darn wasps sprayed in the front and back yards where the dogs are, and in the big shed.

couldn't figure out just where to put this post, but as this is the mainhouse of the farm i decided here would do.
since bringing mom here 3 years ago and my back getting worse i haven't had time or energy to keep up with the everyday housework let alone to a good spring cleaning every year. my house had gotten so dirty it was overwhelming and depressing for me and it became a chore to even get it dusted and the dog hair vacumned up now and then.

Planting Dates

As far as I know here in Utah, you shouldn't plant anything like petunias or other annuals before May 15th = the last possible frost date! For bulbs that bloom in the Spring, you plant in the Fall & the other way around! Apparently, you can plant trees & bushes a bit earlier - I guess I need to get to the Nursery! I am getting really excited about getting my front yard in shape - it needs a tree, some bushes & flowers. We are going to try herbs in the back...

jose's calf

well, it's been a month now since i last posted about jose's calf. i went by the other day and was amazed at how much it's grown and how filled out it is. then i went and saw verrdon and he and his wife, suzanne, brought it up and couldn't beleive the difference. the calf has doubled in size in just this short time and lets hope he doesn't get sick again as it will be no easy feat to have jose throw him and hold him if we were to have to treat it for anything

So far, my plans for the Spring include planting a tree & matching purple bushes out front to bring up the re-sale value, putting more herbs in the back flower bed (it's alongside the house) so my lone chive doesn't get overworked, planting SOMETHING in the garden & playing around with a compost pile. We have the perfect place for a compost pile. It was supposed to be a flower bed or...

a couple of nights ago jose called with another calf going down. i had him rush over and get the antitoxin and needles and due to my wrist i couldn't go help so i once again called verr don to get over and help.
they were too late again and jose lost his 3rd calf, leaving him only 1 now.
this has really brought jose down and now he just wants to get rid of the last calf and offered it to verr don.
we did figure out what was causing the bloat.

with spot's cancer getting worse and the fact that she is about 9 years old now it was time to make the horrid decision that i hate to make.
and this one was hard, as she was still looking good and eating good, but i had a gut feeling that this winter would take her down and i didn't want her to suffer and get into winter where i couldn't get to her and do what might be needed. jerr and i discussed it and he had the gut feeling too that it was time.
i kept her this long...

verr don has his sheep everywhere. the big ones are in my field, the little ones are with the goats, and he took a few to trble and bretts house to eat thier little back pasture. (this works out so good as we get our pastures mowed and verr don has free feed for his sheep).
about a week or 2 ago, brett got a call from his neighbor that one of the sheep got out and was in the neighbors yard. they rounded it up and got it back in brett's yard and brett fixed a fence where he thought...

as you all know verr don has run his sheep last year (20)and this year (18 or 19---hard to count sheep!) on my back acre's to keep down weeds, rotating to the little back pasture and to jerr's pasture and it has worked out well for both of us. he gets free feed, i don't have weeds.
well i complained to him this year that he brought all big ones and only 1 little one, and i like watching the babies and seeing them...

verr don got our first cutting of the alfalfa done. i was amazed that we got so much after not getting water on it for so long and it was stunted. we averaged 1 1/2 ton per acre! that makes me think that the next crop will be even better. obviously verr don is doing something right, as all the other fields around here had water before us and they didn't have 1/2 the crop that we got
